Adobe, a large company that deals with creatives, has done a company audit and turns out that the majority of its employees are working from home. When asked for feedback, it turned out that the reason why most of its workers want to just work from home is that they are more comfortable in their own abodes.
The company has made a serious office makeover since but this just tells you how big of an impact a good office design is. But, whether you are working from home or you’re taking a daily commute to work, it is imperative that everything is in working order.
In this article, I will be providing you with some tips to help you design a home office.
Your office should be in an ideal place with fewer distractions. Do not put it in a place where you can expect a lot of foot traffic and noise. Ideally, you want a separate room for your workspace, but if that is not possible, you might have to repurpose one of your other rooms instead.
Style Should Always Be There
I know that the hallmark of a good workstation is practicality, but since you are going to work from home, it is important that you do not forget about style as well. Unless you want your workspace to look dull and boring, you want to make sure that the furniture
you are getting is also stylish to look at.
For instance, if you are going to get some drawers so that you can easily tuck away some important stuff that might be needed for your work, make it colorful and paint it with whatever color paint that you want.
Invest in a Comfortable Chair
Most work would last for a couple of hours per day. Assuming that you are required to render 8 hours of work, that will be quite a long time to be sitting in an uncomfortable chair.
If you are going to buy an office chair for your home workstation, it is imperative that you buy an ergonomic one that is quite comfortable to sit on for hours on end.
When I say ‘ergonomic’, it should have features that allow you to sit comfortably. Think about armchair swivel, the ability to tilt the chair a couple of degrees back, or even the
ability to adjust the chair’s height to your liking.
Paint Your Walls with the Right Color
Although you are technically working for someone, the beauty of a home office is that
you have the complete freedom to make it look whatever you like.
Therefore, even if the typical office colors are blue, black, or beige, you can paint your walls with whatever color you like- so long as it actually does positive things to your
creativity and productivity.
Give Yourself a View
A home office need not be dull and boring, so you also want to jazz up your view as well. Think about adding some plants or better yet, open the window while you work so that you can take advantage of natural light.
Reduce Cable Clutter
One of the things that you have to think about if you are working from home is how you can reduce cable clutter. Well, there are a number of ways to solve that problem.
You can add grommets to your desk so that you can easily tuck the cables away from your table. You can opt for WiFi instead of a LAN connection for internet connectivity and you can just stow away other cables that are not useful to your work.
